Helllo everybody, here I am in Larnaca, I came here yesterday, one day before the group. In about Three hours, I will go back to the airport to wait for them and to start traveling with them.

We begin our trip here, in Larnaca.

cyprusmap

This map is very good because it shows the divided Cyprus. The Greek part of the island is dark green, the Turkish part is light green. The two parts of the island are separated by the Green Line.  The dividing line was first established in 1964 and extended in 1974. Its length is 180 km and it goes through the centre of the capital city of Cyprus Nicosia. Later during our trip we will cross the line and learn more about it.

Originally Larnaca was known as Kition. It is an old town with narrow streets, a historic fort, and several old churches and mosques.  Walking around the old part of the city shows that the two faiths, Christianity and Islam , used to live here together until 1974, a very important year in history of Cyprus.

I would like to invite you on a short walk around Larnaca. We begin our tour at St Lazarus church:

We will visit this church and learn more about St Lazarus in Cyprus tomorrow. Let’s then continue our tour of the old town of Larnaca:

I hope you have enjoyed our first tour in Cyprus. There is more to come. I will try to post something new everyday.

Now I have to finish working on this blog post and run to the airport to meet Patricia, Scott and the rest of the group. Could this be their plane?!

Last minute message: the group has arrived safely, all 28 of them, they did not lose anybody. I met them at the airport and we are together in a nice hotel not far from the sea. I did not want to take any pictures of them because they were exhausted. This way our Regis College Study Tour has officially begun!!!!

    1. Of course not, that plane landed four hours before their arrival, but I had to make it more interesting by adding that question.
