One of our projects during this trip is to taste local fruit, especially Madeira’s large variety of passion fruit, maracujá.

And now, my favourite pictures of Madeira’s flowers. We have to remember that when the first Portuguese settlers came here, the island was completely covered by forest. They called it Madeira, because it means wood in Portuguese. All the beautiful flowers we can admire here today were brought to the island from other parts of the world.
