Modernista architecture in Barcelona

First, a good lunch with Melanie’s aunt and uncle.

And then, a walk on Passeig de Gracia, to see some of the best examples of Barcelona’s Modernisme.

Modernisme is Barcelona’s unique contribution to the Europe-wide Art Nouveau movement. Modernista architects experimented with new construction techniques. The movement was a response against the regimentation of the Industrial Age.
Here is Casa Lleo Morera, designed by Lluis Domenech i Montaner, finished in 1906:

Casa Lleo Morera is one of three Modernista houses competing for your attention, in the Block of Discord, on Passeig the Gracia.

Here is the second house: Casa Amatller, desighned byt Josep Puig i Cadafalch.

Finally, the third and the most famous one: Casa Batllo, designed by……..Antoni Gaudi, with a crowd of people in front of this incredible building. All three homes are in the same block, all three are very impressive and designed by very famous architects. When you are in Barcelona remember to go to Passeig de Gracia!

Casa Batlló is a renowned building located in the center of Barcelona and is one of Antoni Gaudí’s masterpieces. A remodel of a previously built house, it was redesigned in 1904 by Gaudí and has been refurbished several times after that.

Before I finish this post, here is another building designed by Gaudi, on Passeig de Gracia – La Pedrera. This building is an icon of Modernisme.
