Toronto: St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church

Hello, let us continue travelling in Toronto and its greater area to visit different churches. This time it is a Coptic church on Steeles and Warden.
The word “Copt” essentially means Egyptian. It is derived from the Greek word “Aigyptos”. Later on in history it is used to refer to the Orthodox Christians of Egypt.

The good news of Christianity arrived to Egypt through Saint Mark the apostle around 48 AD; hence the Coptic Church is one of the oldest churches in the world. Saint Mark is regarded as the first of an unbroken chain of 118 Popes. The current Pope of the Coptic Orthodox Church is His Holiness Pope Tawadros II whose title is “Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of Saint Mark”.

People were very friendly and we felt welcome in their church. It is worth a visit. The Divine Liturgy on Sunday begins at 8am and ends after 11 o’clock.
Hi. Thanks for the pictures. I’m writing a brief history of this church, from Egypt, and I have never visited it myself. May I use your pictures, giving a link back to this post? Thanks.
Yes of course, you can use my pictures. Enjoy!
